Puberty Blues

The Return Season

March, 2018 at the Stirling Community Theatre

Based on the novel by Kathy Lette and Gabrielle Carey

Adapted for stage by Zoe Muller

Directed by Zoe Muller

Puberty Blues is an Australian classic coming of age story following the lives of two teenage girls, Debbie and Sue, in the 70’s surfing scene. Their lives revolve around male surfers, panel vans, straight-leg Levis, skipping school, getting wasted and fitting in. When Debbie and Sue finally get accepted into the Greenhills Surfer gang, their lives get turned upside down as they are forced to grow up much sooner than they should. Puberty Blues is a raw, disturbing and honest portrayal of adolescence exactly as it was in the 1970’s.

“After a successful opening, the trio have brought the play back to Adelaide audiences as a part of the Fringe Festival. One can see why. This is a great production.” – Glam Adelaide

“I encourage our theatre community to support young companies like this, recognise that they are filling a void by providing roles for young adults and bringing new work to Adelaide audiences. Long may it continue.”

– Trish Francis (TASA)
